Here Goes! =)

OK ladies and gentlemen, the Intel demo competition has officially started! I was just having a look at all the demos that are competing this time and I have to say a big good job to all the groups. They were all quite nice. As for the ASD demo, "Beyond The Walls Of Eryx", well.... I was surprised, and not! I wasn't surprised that the demo rulez... after all it's ASD, what else would one expect? But the demo was so original and so awesome that it actually did manage to drop my jaw all the way to the floor! So, BIG kudos to the ASD demo from both me and Genox! The demo has great visuals, great concept and great music. Another BIG kudos to aMUSiC for the super soundtrack. So if you haven't already, make sure you see the demo now. You can also download the demo from the same Intel page. Enjoy! =)

Well I pretty much liked all of the demos, though I got bored with the Synesthetics one a little. But I can't run either one of them on my computer.

Oh I didn't realize that your RSS address had changed! I've missed a whole bunch of news!! I just watched the competition demos and they are all nice, but the ASD demo is more than nice obviously. :)

WOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!! =D
What I like about ASD so much is that each time they do something completely different than the last time. Nicely done guys, keep it up.

Wellllll it should probably be even nicer if I could see it full screen, but no luck playing it on my PC either.

I like the isometric(?) rendering in the ASD demo (The question mark is because someone claims it's not called isometric but I can't say about that, anyways for whatever it is :). Great idea with the greetings in the music (which I really liked). And it's the only one of these demos still running smooth enough or at all in my old laptop with FX5600 (my desktop computer has died) and that even with running the normal exe and not the older machines one (how do ASD manage to still produce something so cool that works on older machines while others ask for more GPU, is out of my reach)

Other than that, next I liked the Synesthetics demo and then XPLSV and Still. That goes ASD > STS >XPLSV > STILL > FLT. The FLT demo while it had some nice effects, it managed to only bore me near the middle.

Anyone asked for lyrics?

I wrote the passage and it is voiced by DJ Jules of Split Infinity Radio

There are 21 "undercover" group greetings in the passage. Can you spot them all? :

I reach out my arms for the pole bolstered to my cerebrum, supporting my psyche in accord to the oblivious effects of color intoxication.
A look in the construct I call my being reveals what once used to be self sufficient, now corrupt from an explosive reaction and an extravagant tendency to entropy.
At times I crave to breach my cocoon and ascend like a wish to the constellation of Andromeda to watch over the world through eyes of plastic comprehending the cosmos in values of red, green, blue and transparent.
Right here on the threshold of God, I still await for the judgment of light that is fair and translucent, free from the torturing thoughts of conspiracy theories but all I come up with are mountains of synaesthetic metaphors.
I drift on the stardust like an automobile that has lost grip and traction on slippery tarmac and wonder, who will be enduring the burden of mopping the dust in the belt of orion this week..
I've been feeling like a wizard that's gone mad and narcoleptic on an escape route paved with leaves of a black lotus and sketches of melons for I never thought I'd exceed Ulysses expectations and reach the island of the cyclops, now unleashing new media propaganda.
Right here I stand on top of the walls of Eryx imbued by the cursed blessing of alien prophets to spend an eternity watching my life force being consumed by wireframe aparitions.
I was set upon this world to try and outtrack you but this is what I've become.

Also, as with all demos, make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card (Forceware for nVidia, or Catalyst for ATI). Beyond the walls of Eryx requires a Geforce 5600 or above, but I would recommend 6800 or above for smooth playback (both are now very old cards).

Regarding notebooks, try to avoid ones that have the low-end 3d accelerators (such as geforce 7300, 7400 and generally all the *300 and *400 series). They are weak cards and definately not for demowatching.

as for the lyrics.. the whole surrealistic thing is not a product of too much thought. I wrote the lyrics in one go trying to find a context to fit in the group names. So if you're trying to find a hidden (or any) meaning whatsoever... don't.. there's none cause I wasn't thinking of one when I wrote those =)

But yeah.. if I try to put the words into some context they sound pessimistic.. perhaps a kind of "mental suicide"...

Now let's play the spot the greetings game =) I intentionally left out the 22nd one as it is the "God" part.. refering to an old and no more active greek demo group called "dEUS".

Another greek demo group we greet is "Psyches" (referenced by the word "Pyche" in the text). Now you're left with 20. First one that comes up with all 20 of them in here (citing both the part in the text and the group name) might get a shoutout in our next demo =)

Another shoutout will go to the person who finds what the name of our next demo will be.. it's also in the lyrics but you'll probably have to do some guesswork there.

Begin!

Well happy belated ASD demo release!! I was on a trip so I hadn't been able to see the demo until this morning. It's pretty awesome as ppl have already said. Hmmm my knowledge of demogroup names is really low... maybe it's ok if aasemoon gives out some of the more difficult ones? ^_^

This asd demo has a very unique style that I totally digggg.
Is "red, green, blue" a group name?

3:10 PM
Anonymous Warren said...

Xander you can probably search pouet.net to figure that out. =)

3:15 PM
Anonymous todd said...

Yeah I think the easiest way would be to search every word of the lyrics on pouet.net to see if it fits a group. :p

Respect to ASD for the fantastic demo.

Hi all !

Thanks to everybody and to Aasemoon for your good words ! Indeed XPLSV is explosive and red,green,blue is RGBA (a group from Spain). Stay in tune for our biggest demo yet, to be shown at Assembly 2007 in 4 weeks ! I'll be there !..

Andromeda
Plastic
Red, green, blue and transparent = rgba
God = dEUS :)
light that is fair = Fairlight
Conspiracy
Synaesthetic = Synesthetics
Traction
Wonder^SGZ?
Mopping = Moppi Productions
Orion
Wizard^Collapse?
Mad^Bauknecht?
Black Lotus = The Black Lotus
Melons = Melon Designs?
Exceed
Propaganda = Japanese demo?
Alien Prophets

I'm missing some. I think I'm too new to demoscene to name them all :)

10:21 AM
Anonymous stage7^bixo said...

Oops. I missed Psyxes.

10:23 AM
Anonymous stage7^bixo said...

And MadWizards. That makes 21. Yay! \o/

9:57 PM
Anonymous stage7^bixo said...

If we don't count "dEUS" it would be 20. 21st is for Still ("await for the judgement..."). I can spot more hidden sceners like Willbe ("enduring the burden...").

That makes: Psyxes, Farbrausch, XPLSV, Stravaganza, Cocoon, Andromeda, Plastic, rgba, dEUS, Still, Fairlight, Conspiracy, Synesthetics, Traction, Moppi, Orion, MadWizards, The Black Lotus, Melon Designs, Exceed, Alien Prophets, Outtracks.

It's too late and I got bored. Sorry for the flood.
