ASD - Midnight Run

ASD's "Metamorphosis" was one of those demos that made us all "think" for a while. Very deep and meaningful, and also very fresh from the design point of view. "More of this please" is definitely something that I was thinking while watching that demo over and over again. Well, I guess somebody heard that, because now we can enjoy some more of that... or perhaps I should say "even better than that". =)
Yesterday I woke up pretty early in the morning to check out ASD's new demo "Midnight Run", which happens a sequel to "Metamorphosis". It's very interesting that the demo didn't only bring me back the "Metamorphosis" feeling, but I also experienced a bit of "Lifeforce" feeling too. The visuals of this demo are extremely beautiful, and the music is simply ingenious. As expected there's a ton of depth of meaning, enough to again keep us all thinking for the days to come.
You can download the demo and read the related comments here.

Afternoon Stroll lyrics by aMUSiC

English Translation:

Ten thousand stars in front of me
light-blue drawing pins keeping my dreams
True
Carefree

Between my lips I hold a piece of spearmint
I close my eyes and see the world
With colors
Transparent

Maybe I am..
a ray of light, a forgotten god
the air of Scirocco, Aura's enemy

Maybe I have..
Let a heart beat get lost
fallen asleep in your arms again

Intel Demo Competition 2008 : The Real Deal Is In!

Well well well, I was notified this morning by Optimus [thank you!] that the actual entries for the IDC 2008 are finally released and ready to be voted for. And I have to say, oh boy, aren't they awesome! I mean I started with the Cocoon demo and the music caught me right away, and of course the graphics were nothing short of marvellous. Then the Firlight & TBL demo with those cute little buttons [dude, I want some of those! =)] and the scary dissolving faces gave me round eyes. Next was the MFX demo and it's cool style, I specially liked the beginning of this one. Then came the Inque demo with again fantastic music, and all the orange juice. I mean they even have ASD labeled orange juice. ;) Last but certainly not least was the beautiful beautiful Still demo. The music is just otherworldly, and the visuals, oh, the visuals... no words, I'm speechless. As I mentioned before, Still always has a way of making me happy. =)
So, big Kudos to all the competing teams, and now it's time for you all to go and see the demos for yourselves. You can either watch the demos on the IDC website, or download the real-times here. Enjoy. And, well, wish me luck too as I have a competition of my own to face, tomorrow. =)

Intel Demo Competition 2008

As you may have already noticed through my twine feed, the IDC 2008 final competing teams have been selected, and the application demos are now available to watch through the IDC website. Similar to previous years: 5 teams, 5 fantastic demos, and 1 heck of a dilemma when it comes to voting, which you can do as of the end of June. =) The competing teams this year are Cocoon, Fairlight & TBL, MFX, Inque and Still.
As for how I feel about the demos, well, I really can't tell yet. I've watched each demo 3 times so far but I still have quite a few more rounds to go. But so far, I can say this, Still always has a way of making me glad I watched the demo [hence the pic!], and to top that, they brought in the duckie again! =D
I have to add that the demos are not available for downloading as of yet, but I will let you know as soon as they are. So for now, go watch some demos and enjoy!

P.S.: Does the "fat guy" in Cocoon's demo remind any of you of "Baron Vladimir Harkonnen" of Frank Herbert's "Dune"? Cause that's who he reminds me of somehow! =)

UPDATE: Well, I think Optimus' comment just confirmed my suspicion. The application demos are almost all parts of previously released demos, except for some reason [I could be very well wrong about this] the Fairlight & TBL demo seems newish! So lets just wait and see if there will be other demos popping up.

Metamorphosis / Breakpoint 08 / NVISION Anyone?

Hey all, how was your long weekend? With the current Toronto weather, mine could have ended up quite boring. But of course it didn't, as I was saved by the miracle of ASD! =D The Breakpoint demoparty was held during the weekend, and there were quite a few awesome demos competing in various categories, including ASD's new demo by the name Metamorphosis. This demo is one of the most different, artistic and refreshing demos that I have seen up to this day. I'm not going to say more about it here, because you just have to see it. And by the way it seems that the Rogers problem with pouet.net has been resolved somehow, so you're not going to have any problems accessing the page hopefully. Make sure you also check out other demos released in Breakpoint 08. Some of my favorites:
- Masagin by Farbrausch [This one is incredibly cute! =) ]
- Challenger Deep by Traction & Brainstorm [Extremely Beautiful]
- theBeauty by Einklang.net [Colourful demo]
- Linear by SQNY [Darn kool style]
- Concentrate by Adapt [Some very cool effects]
- Diego on e - Unfortunately I have no clue who made this [Very very colourful and pretty demo]
- 60 Seconds for Mr. Light by Anadune [Underrated unfortunately.. I found it absolutely adorable]
- Wild Demo: Craft by lft [Oh Jeez... this one is awesome in ways I can't possibly explain!]

On a bit of a different topic, NVISION anyone? A couple of weeks ago I sent a whole load of information out about NVISION, for people who have left an email address with me to be kept in the loop with any demoscene related events. But so far no one has got back to me. Is there anybody who's going? In case you're wondering what this is about, check here. NVISION is a newly born demoparty which will be held in the San Jose, from 25th to 27th of August, and from what my understanding is, it's going to be pretty darn cool. And yes it's true, unfortunately I can't go because at that point in time my plane will be going to the opposite direction. But you can be sure that I would go if I were to be around. So if you're going, let me know. And if you're not sure yet, well, just GO! =) Don't miss this!

Update: ALSO ALSO... Jeez how could I forget to write this? The scene.org awards ceremony was also held during the Breakpoint, and you can find a complete list of winners here. Congratulations to ASD for winning the award for the best demo, as well as a couple of more categories. Make sure you check the winner for Breakthrough Performance too, it's very cute. Twine: I'm In! =)

Yes yes, I did receive an invitation from the Twine cast and crew. =) Honestly I wasn't quite sure what to expect, and I'm happy to say that I haven't been disappointed with what I have seen so far. The truth is, I also do have the same feeling as Genox about the number of current social networking websites, as well as their quality. [Which is: not a very good feeling!] But now after having used Twine for a day and half, I can say that it's something new. Yes, finally something new! I still have to use it quite a bit more before I can talk more about what it does and how it's like, but from what I've seen so far, to put it simple, it really is a way of sharing knowledge and interests! It's like Wikipedia + del.icio.us + Digg + a public weblog, and it has social networking tools and abilities too. I'm currently very much curious about the "behind the scenes" of it, and I guess I have some digging to do. ;) Oh yes, I also have to mention that although you get a warning when you try to log-in using Opera, saying that the browser is not supported, but actually everything works just fine on Opera, including the bookmarklet.

Also: The online version of Zine #13 is out! Yes, it is, finally! Click here to read.

Genox.ch / Lazarus / Demo Videos

Nowadays, it seems that there are more weblogs on the net than anything else. Weblogs of all sorts, for all topics and purposes, with all the various looks and designs that they have. Or.. do they? Well, not really! Honestly it seems most weblogs these days are somehow the same, design-wise, that is. Blog templates are pretty repetitious, and well maybe I'm a bit of a visual person, but I would like it better if the text and the looks have something to do with each other... if the blog is supposedly the reflection of the persons mind, isn't it a good idea if the blog template is too? At least to some extent? Anyhow, I've had a lot of people telling me that my weblog looks somewhat "unusual" or "different than what's out there". Well, if you think my blog is different, wait till you see the new template of Genox.ch! Just check it out... now this is what I call difference. =)
Is any of you guys reading this blog into comic books? Well, I am! I can't say that I'm reading them all the time, but every once in a while I just like to drown myself in some good comics. That being said, lately I came across a 3 volume comic set of a certain genre that I don't read just thaaaat often. But hey, I found these ones pretty interesting! The comics are called "Lazarus", and they're about a guy who is on the run after a horrible experience... it's a bit of a painful and horror-like story, created by Diego Cortes and Juan E. Ferreyra. So if you're into comic books, check this one out.
On yet another completely different note, I just put together an FLV demo video collection in my gallery [viewable on the web]. The collection, which is not that large yet, is mainly for "demonstration" purposes. The idea was basically handed to me by some of the folk attending the demoshows, saying that it would be nice to have an easy/quick way of showing what you mean by "demos" when you're talking to somebody about them. Specially if it's such that you don't have to search YouTube for some good demos, when you don't know many names! So there ye go! =) And yes, I am planning on expanding the collection, and do drop me a line if you have some videos to add to this.

ZIne # 13, REALEASED!

Yes yes yes, ooooook, about 50 emails so far. =) I know, I know, I swear! So yes, Zine #13 was released this morning, Europe time, which explains why I was asleep at the time it was released, so please let me wake up first and then [now] I will certainly write about it. ;)
The much anticipated 13th issue of the Zine digital magazine, as it was apparent from the headlines that were released earlier, has a great deal to offer. At the first glance, the interface is definitely one of the cutest ones I have seen, and at the same time it's very smooth and simple to use. The music selection is also a nice complement to the good looks. Of course the most important part of any magazine would be the article, and the Zine team has definitely done an excellent job with that as well. There's a wide range of articles about all things Demoscene related, and I would say that for all of your guys and gals out there who are curious about different aspects of the Demoscene, this is certainly a must read. So, go ahead and check it out!
If by any slight chance you have problem viewing the magazine, as far as I could find out from bitfellas.org, there is going to be an online edition sooner or later. So don't worry too much.
And well, yes, that is my picture on the thumbnail. Read the magazine and you shall know why. ;)

Zine #13 Headlines Intro Released!

Last night I was notified that the Zine #13 headlines has been released! This intro which has been created by ASD, Brainstorm and Bitfellas gives you a general idea as to what you can expect to read in the upcoming Zine issue, but that sure is not all that it offers! The modeling of this intro has been done by Navis, and the music has been created by aMUSiC, which mean that YES, there is an ASD mini demo here that you really don't want to miss. =) The intro looks quite similar to the "Beyond The Walls Of Eryx" that was created for last year's Intel demo competition. And well you see, it has mini robots. And I guess I've already made it clear how I feel about mini robots. =D Wee! I have to mention that aMUSiC has definitely done it again with the superb music. As for the headlines, honestly I couldn't read every single word of it. But from what I was able to get out of it, seems like Zine #13 is going to be quite a ride, as was the case with #12. Hey, I know that you know what I'm talking about because almost everyone reading this blog had checked out the "Life Force Development Journal". ;) So, I'm very much looking forward to reading the upcoming issue. Meanwhile, don't forget to check out the intro!

Update:
I know some of you guys have problems running the intro or reading the text. I'm still looking for a video version or the pure text for the headlines, but so far no luck. I tried capturing it myself, didn't work out too well. I will definitely let you know as soon as I find something.
On the other hand, some guys seem to have problems seeing the pouet.net page for the intro. Well, not surprisingly I also have the same problem. I have not been able to see any pages on pouet.net for half a year now! I think it's a problem with our beloved provider the bloody Rogers with their perfect DNS system. [Did I mention I bloody hate Rogers?] Instead I use pouet.scene.org and that works just fine. So the working link would be this one. Or you can download it directly from the ASD website with this link.
And yes, something weird had happened to some of the comments while re-publishing this article and they were showing up in the wrong place. I've fixed that and moved the comments back here.

UPDATE:
Well well, ladies and gentlemen who couldn't run the demo or read the text, worry no more! =D We've been saved by Genox^Vantage^Calodox a.k.a my Other Half, as he has just captured a video of the intro. You can download it from here: http://genox.ch/pub/asd_-_zine_13_headlines.m4v

Oh My World....ASD!!!

Well well, let's see what we've got here....well here we've got me, who's been sitting here on this couch watching "Lifeforce" on my notebook over and over and over again for so many times I've lost count by now, and trying really hard to figure out what I'm gonna write here about the demo and still not knowing what. I mean what can I possibly say about this demo that would really describe either the demo or how I feel about it? aMUSiC just told me that ASD has been working on this demo for 6 months... what can I write in a few lines to be a fair comment about something so beautiful that has taken so much hard work?
For the first 30 minutes all that came to my mind was "Oh My God" and even now it's mostly that. ASD's new Assembly winner masterpiece causes quite the movement in one's mind. I'd been told that I was about to have a new favorite ASD demo and that's totally the case! =) The visuals bring you this beautiful mix of amazement and astonishment, way to go Navis, AMV and Archmage. And the music... well ... what else can you expect from aMUSiC and Leviathan? It's a fascinating soundtrack which is completely perfect for the demo.
There really isn't much more that I can say... you have to carefully watch this demo, it speaks for itself and it has a lot to say actually. Do make sure to read the "read me" info as well for some extra hints.
Thanks again ASD! =)

Here Goes! =)

OK ladies and gentlemen, the Intel demo competition has officially started! I was just having a look at all the demos that are competing this time and I have to say a big good job to all the groups. They were all quite nice. As for the ASD demo, "Beyond The Walls Of Eryx", well.... I was surprised, and not! I wasn't surprised that the demo rulez... after all it's ASD, what else would one expect? But the demo was so original and so awesome that it actually did manage to drop my jaw all the way to the floor! So, BIG kudos to the ASD demo from both me and Genox! The demo has great visuals, great concept and great music. Another BIG kudos to aMUSiC for the super soundtrack. So if you haven't already, make sure you see the demo now. You can also download the demo from the same Intel page. Enjoy! =)

ASD To Compete Again! =D

ATTENTION ATTENTION: Important news everyone! =D I was just checking my shoutbox, which is finally bug free thanks to Genox, and I found this message from aMUSiC of ASD:

"Hear ye, Hear ye! http://www.intel-demoscene.de/ (there is a button on the bottom to switch to english. 3 minutes instead of 30 seconds, and no DJ Hell this time."

Wellllll I guess we all know what that means. =) Another Intel demo competition, a new ASD demo to come soon, and this time with original aMUSiC tune. I was just having a look at the list of this time's competitors and I had my eyes going like => Oo since the teams are all my favorites! So for me this means candy shop on July 2nd. WEEEEEEE! =D Here's who they are:

  • ASD
  • Fairlight
  • Still
  • Synesthetics
  • XPLSV

You can have a look at the Intel page for a little memory refreshment, these are all teams that we actually have watched their demos on the big screen pretty often. =) I have to mention here, there's a certain other team that I really wish to see more activity from. You know who you are. But just in case you don't, well you're Vantage. Move IT guys!

I also have a message from Optimus reminding me of the yet to be used CDCz that I have on pouet. Well, I guess I'm waiting for the Intel demo competition! ;)
And on a little side note: Yup my blog has a new home now. Please change your bookmarks and links to blog.aasemoon.com, thank you. =) Of course it's not a problem to keep the old one, cause you'd still be forwarded to the right address.

Slowly Fading Colors

Yesterday evening, Genox released his new EP by the name "Slowly Fading Colors". The EP includes 5 new tracks:
Aquarius
Proto Z
Trafficlights
Dling Dling
Resurrected Piano

Having listened to these 5 tracks over and over and over again, I believe I can say that this EP is quite a step forward for this artist, and a truly enjoyable one to listen to. The EP includes some nice surprises for the old fans, and also has a lot to offer to a wider range of new listeners. The 5 tracks are an amazing display of the artist's ability to smoothly flow through different genres and mix elements from different styles to create something very new, and yet containing the familiar Genox atmosphere. A very special collection of colors, which in turn brings me to the title of the EP.
With all due respect to the artist's truly interesting reasoning for choosing the title "Slowly Fading Colors", I can't help mentioning that the EP brings an image of a "Box of Crayons" to my mind a lot more than fading colors. To elaborate, I basically see the EP as a collection of colors, placed side by side in a so well selected order, that causes each color to stand out in their own turn.
All that being said, I believe it's time for you to listen to the EP, and develop your own opinion! =) So, check out Genox's blog post to download the EP.
Update: Just in case you can't load Genox's blog, you can download the EP directly from here.

Surprise, SURPRISE! :)

There's music I like, there's music that can make me happy, and then, there's music that can take me to the 7th heaven. Well of course the last category is the most difficult to find. That's why when an artist who can create that certain kind of music, releases a single track after a period of absence, that's definitely the cause for some serious excitement on my side! :) Wonder what I'm talking about? SURPRISE SURPRISE people, Genox just released a new single! YAY! I've been listening to this same track over and over and over again since last night, and I have absolutely no words to describe it. I might have said "incredible", but that just doesn't cut it. So check it out for yourself, and experience the effects of "Various Shades Of Blue". :)

Update: Ok it seems like Genox just uploaded a whole bunch of his tracks, which you can access through his blog. So... check it out! :)

Umm...Stuff! :)

First of all, a note to the guys and gals who asked for the Distillery photos. I've now posted a few of those in my phlog. Just for you. :)
With regards to amv's comment on the last post, the Demovibes website seems to be up and about now: www.demovibes.org
What else....oh yeah. In my on going scene-music diggage, I finally found...well... let me try to explai
