Genox.ch / Lazarus / Demo Videos

Nowadays, it seems that there are more weblogs on the net than anything else. Weblogs of all sorts, for all topics and purposes, with all the various looks and designs that they have. Or.. do they? Well, not really! Honestly it seems most weblogs these days are somehow the same, design-wise, that is. Blog templates are pretty repetitious, and well maybe I'm a bit of a visual person, but I would like it better if the text and the looks have something to do with each other... if the blog is supposedly the reflection of the persons mind, isn't it a good idea if the blog template is too? At least to some extent? Anyhow, I've had a lot of people telling me that my weblog looks somewhat "unusual" or "different than what's out there". Well, if you think my blog is different, wait till you see the new template of Genox.ch! Just check it out... now this is what I call difference. =)
Is any of you guys reading this blog into comic books? Well, I am! I can't say that I'm reading them all the time, but every once in a while I just like to drown myself in some good comics. That being said, lately I came across a 3 volume comic set of a certain genre that I don't read just thaaaat often. But hey, I found these ones pretty interesting! The comics are called "Lazarus", and they're about a guy who is on the run after a horrible experience... it's a bit of a painful and horror-like story, created by Diego Cortes and Juan E. Ferreyra. So if you're into comic books, check this one out.
On yet another completely different note, I just put together an FLV demo video collection in my gallery [viewable on the web]. The collection, which is not that large yet, is mainly for "demonstration" purposes. The idea was basically handed to me by some of the folk attending the demoshows, saying that it would be nice to have an easy/quick way of showing what you mean by "demos" when you're talking to somebody about them. Specially if it's such that you don't have to search YouTube for some good demos, when you don't know many names! So there ye go! =) And yes, I am planning on expanding the collection, and do drop me a line if you have some videos to add to this.

4 Days Left!

Oh God... Oh God.... OOOOOOOHHHHHHHH GGGGGGGOOOODDDD.... only 4 days left. As previously mentioned on the Purple Blog, on Sunday the 16th I shall fly to Zürich, and have what will probably be one of the most unusual and exciting holidays of life. So much is coming... so much is about to happen... soooooooo much to look forward to. Of course right now every second feels like an hour, every hour feels like a day and every day feels like a month. I guess the reason for the major excitement overdose is obvious: there's a little city not so far from Zürich, called Solothurn, and there's a certain Genox in Solothurn... well... yeah! =)
And there's more.... a lot more. It's very complicated right now, I can't foretell what's going to happen in the coming months, but lets just say that in the not very far future I may not need a plain ticket anymore when I want to see Genox. I have some serious homework to do while I'm in Switzerland. I have to figure out the final details of what I may be getting myself into. So much excitement, so much to do..... ;)

ShoutNox!

Today I finally found the time to get rid of the old messy ShoutBox, that had became full of junk thanks to the spam bots, and due to it's old PHP syntax couldn't work out with Fast CGI [which my beloved host recently offers]. As you may have already noticed, now I have a ShoutNox instead. Neat and clean and spam proof, thanks to it's creator the great Genox. =D Try it out if you like!

On another happy note, today's edition of Garfield is definitely one of the cutest ones I've seen so far. =) Here it is:

ASD To Compete Again! =D

ATTENTION ATTENTION: Important news everyone! =D I was just checking my shoutbox, which is finally bug free thanks to Genox, and I found this message from aMUSiC of ASD:

"Hear ye, Hear ye! http://www.intel-demoscene.de/ (there is a button on the bottom to switch to english. 3 minutes instead of 30 seconds, and no DJ Hell this time."

Wellllll I guess we all know what that means. =) Another Intel demo competition, a new ASD demo to come soon, and this time with original aMUSiC tune. I was just having a look at the list of this time's competitors and I had my eyes going like => Oo since the teams are all my favorites! So for me this means candy shop on July 2nd. WEEEEEEE! =D Here's who they are:

  • ASD
  • Fairlight
  • Still
  • Synesthetics
  • XPLSV

You can have a look at the Intel page for a little memory refreshment, these are all teams that we actually have watched their demos on the big screen pretty often. =) I have to mention here, there's a certain other team that I really wish to see more activity from. You know who you are. But just in case you don't, well you're Vantage. Move IT guys!

I also have a message from Optimus reminding me of the yet to be used CDCz that I have on pouet. Well, I guess I'm waiting for the Intel demo competition! ;)
And on a little side note: Yup my blog has a new home now. Please change your bookmarks and links to blog.aasemoon.com, thank you. =) Of course it's not a problem to keep the old one, cause you'd still be forwarded to the right address.

Slowly Fading Colors

Yesterday evening, Genox released his new EP by the name "Slowly Fading Colors". The EP includes 5 new tracks:
Aquarius
Proto Z
Trafficlights
Dling Dling
Resurrected Piano

Having listened to these 5 tracks over and over and over again, I believe I can say that this EP is quite a step forward for this artist, and a truly enjoyable one to listen to. The EP includes some nice surprises for the old fans, and also has a lot to offer to a wider range of new listeners. The 5 tracks are an amazing display of the artist's ability to smoothly flow through different genres and mix elements from different styles to create something very new, and yet containing the familiar Genox atmosphere. A very special collection of colors, which in turn brings me to the title of the EP.
With all due respect to the artist's truly interesting reasoning for choosing the title "Slowly Fading Colors", I can't help mentioning that the EP brings an image of a "Box of Crayons" to my mind a lot more than fading colors. To elaborate, I basically see the EP as a collection of colors, placed side by side in a so well selected order, that causes each color to stand out in their own turn.
All that being said, I believe it's time for you to listen to the EP, and develop your own opinion! =) So, check out Genox's blog post to download the EP.
Update: Just in case you can't load Genox's blog, you can download the EP directly from here.

Surprise, SURPRISE! :)

There's music I like, there's music that can make me happy, and then, there's music that can take me to the 7th heaven. Well of course the last category is the most difficult to find. That's why when an artist who can create that certain kind of music, releases a single track after a period of absence, that's definitely the cause for some serious excitement on my side! :) Wonder what I'm talking about? SURPRISE SURPRISE people, Genox just released a new single! YAY! I've been listening to this same track over and over and over again since last night, and I have absolutely no words to describe it. I might have said "incredible", but that just doesn't cut it. So check it out for yourself, and experience the effects of "Various Shades Of Blue". :)

Update: Ok it seems like Genox just uploaded a whole bunch of his tracks, which you can access through his blog. So... check it out! :)

Umm...Stuff! :)

First of all, a note to the guys and gals who asked for the Distillery photos. I've now posted a few of those in my phlog. Just for you. :)
With regards to amv's comment on the last post, the Demovibes website seems to be up and about now: www.demovibes.org
What else....oh yeah. In my on going scene-music diggage, I finally found...well... let me try to explain to you what I found. The Assembly 2006 freestyle music competition happened on around 7:45 of a Saturday morning [Toronto time]. So I was half asleep when the competition started, and I was watching the web-tv on my notebook in bed. I remember hearing this fantastic song that took my breath away, but somewhere in between my struggle to open my eyes and a silly stream blink, I ended up missing the song info. So now after going through almost all the competition entries, finally I found it. "When Time Stands Still" by PK, check it out.
Also, I know that some of you have already discovered this, but if you haven't, make sure you check out "Aufgewacht Und Tee Gemacht" by Genox. [Ummm..."Woke up and made tea"?! I just hope I got the spelling right.] I've been listening to this about 10 times a day recently. One of the best that I've heared from this artist so far. Absolutely brilliant.
These 2 tracks speak directly to my heart. <3 <3 :>
And that's about it for now......

Update: Umm Guys...there's a new comment on the first part of the display report that you might like to check out. :)

Audio Capture

Since this seems to be the topic of the week, I might as well create a new post and share some news with you. A whole bunch of you have been asking for the soundtracks for a couple of Vantage demos. And it seems like some of you are not much for waiting. :D Anyway, I just captured the soundtracks for "A Simple Way" and "3 Cows Ahead" [click to download]. As for how I did it, well "3 Cows Ahead" is an avi so it's a simple matter of an audio extraction. However, I tried a whole bunch of extractors and played around with whatever options available, but the result is never perfect for some reason. Specially the beginning of this one sounds far from what you hear on the avi. Keep in mind the fact that I'm no audio expert anyway. :"> So if you know of an extractor which could do a better job, please let me know. "A Simple Way" was of course a different story. I came across this demo capturing software called "kkapture 0.01" a while ago (on pouet.net BBS). It's an easy to use application which does a pretty darn impressive job capturing both the audio and the video. So I used this to capture an avi of the demo, and then did the same mp3 extraction. The resulting audio quality is rather good. So...enjoy, and I'd certainly appreciate any bits of technical info that you might wanna throw at me. :>

Update: Wheee! Amoivikos [amv] of ASD has just posted a comment containing some very interesting information regarding a number of great scene tracks. Check it out! Always the best info, does this guy rule or what? :)

Update: Sorry guys, there is no full version of the "3 Cows Ahead" soundtrack. It was never finished.

Second Demo Display [Report In Progress, Part 6 Posted]

A Simple Way by Vantage was another demo to bring up some controversy. Some very much liked it, some very much didn't. Now if you're one of those who liked it, then we're on the same page. But if you're one of those who didn't, well then I'd like you to enlighten me a bit: What was it about this demo that you didn't like? I do remember some guys saying that they were bored. But that's as much as I could gather. The positive side seemed to have a lot to say though. This demos is....well....simple as the name depicts. An easy going /relaxing design with calming colors, put together with a fantastic sound track and some interesting lyrics, "demonstrating" the concept of beauty within simplicity. So explain to me, why did some of you look like you wanted to shoot me for being a bit Vantified? :P
You are going our way now,
Our way is simple,
We like going our way,
Because our way is simple,
It is,
A simple way.

I guess you could say that my fellow Elec Engeez got quite a treat this time around, given that there were at least 3 demos related to their field in this show. The very directly related one was Electric Kool-Aid by Synesthetics. The whole demo is displayed through an oscilloscope tube, what else could we possibly ask for? huh? But this electrifying demo didn't just make the EE posse happy, it actually managed to make everyone happy! The super cool design and general atmosphere of this demo was exciting for the whole crowd. It seems like there are not many Synesthetics demos out there, well I hope that we'll see more from these guys in the future.

Update: Guys I don't have the soundtrack for "A Simple Way" in s seperate file. If it's out there, I'm yet to find it. If you find it, I want it too!

[End of part 6]
