Don't ask me how this happened but here comes a 2nd new ASD demo in less than a month. And honestly I like this one even better than the previous. "Spin" was just released at Assembly 2011, and so not surprisingly won 1st place. =) This is certainly one of my favourites ASD demos. Download the exe here.
I am spinning out of control Drinking my dark side on a moon patrol Dropping an anchor on a concrete floor The links are dragging me out of the door
Can I close my eyes and see? Can I disappear and be? Can I play the absentee, In this cage I built for me?
Can I stand up where I fell? Can I spiral in my shell? Can I cast a binding spell, On this winding road to hell?
I am spinning against the wall Grabbing on corners when I feel so small Give into impulse as I drop the ball Breaking the habits I cannot recall
Can I close my eyes and see? Can I disappear and be? Can I play the absentee, In this cage I built for me?
Can I stand up where I fell? Can I spiral in my shell? Can I cast a binding spell, On this winding road to hell?
I am spinning and the world is still Pointing the finger on the things I feel You find me exhausted and crawling uphill To colourful nightmares against my will
Can I close my eyes and see? Can I disappear and be? Can I play the absentee, In this cage I built for me?
Can I stand up where I fell? Can I spiral in my shell? Can I cast a binding spell, On this winding road to hell?
Can I burn my wings and fly? Can I justify a lie? Can I turn my back and cry? Can I be there when I die?
Loreena McKennitt's version of Alfred Lord Tennyson's "Lady of Shalott" is my favourite so far. The story of Lady of Shalott has always been one of my favourite Arthurian myths, and I think Loreena McKennitt's voice and style of music goes perfectly with the general feel of the story.
On either side of the river lie Long fields of barley and of rye, That clothe the Wold and meet the sky; And thro' the field the road run by To many-towered Camelot; And up and down the people go, Gazing where the lilies blow Round an island there below, The Island of Shalott.
Willows whiten, aspens quiver, Little breezes dusk and shiver Thro' the wave that runs for ever By the island in the river Flowing down to Camelot. Four grey walls, and four grey towers, Overlook a space of flowers, And the silent isle embowers The Lady of Shalott.
Only reapers, reaping early, In among the bearded barley Hear a song that echoes cheerly Down to Tower'd Camelot; And by the moon the reaper weary, Piling sheaves in uplands airy, Listening, whispers "Tis the Fairy The Lady of Shalott."
There she weaves by night and day A magic web with colours gay. She has heard a whisper say, A curse is on her if she stay To look down to Camelot.
She knows not what the curse may be, And so she weaveth steadily, And little other care hath she, The Lady of Shalott.
And moving through a mirror clear That hangs before her all the year, Shadows of the world appear. There she sees the highway near Winding down to Camelot; And sometimes thro' the mirror blue The Knights come riding two and two. She hath no loyal knight and true, The Lady of Shalott.
But in her web she still delights To weave the mirror's magic sights, For often thro' the silent nights A funeral, with plumes and lights And music, went to Camelot; Or when the moon was overhead, Came two young lovers lately wed. "I am half sick of shadows," said The Lady of Shalott.
A bow-shot from her bower-eaves, He rode between the barley sheaves, The sun came dazzling thro' the leaves, And flamed upon the brazen greaves Of bold Sir Lancelot. A red-cross knight for ever kneel'd To a lady in his shield, That sparkled on the yellow field, Beside remote Shalott.
His broad clear brow in sunlight glow'd; On burnish'd hooves his war-horse trode; From underneath his helmet flow'd His coal-black curls as on he rode, As he rode down to Camelot. From the bank and from the river He flashed into the crystal mirror, "Tirra lirra" by the river Sang Sir Lancelot.
She left the web, she left the loom, She made three paces thro' the room, She saw the water-lily bloom, She saw the helmet and the plume, She look'd down to Camelot. Out flew the web and floated wide; The mirror crack'd from side to side; "The Curse is come upon me," cried The Lady of Shalott.
And down the river's dim expanse Like some bold seer in a trance, Seeing all his own mischance-- With a glassy countenance did she look to Camelot. And at the closing of the day She loosed the chain, and down she lay; The broad stream bore her far away, The Lady of Shalott.
Heard a carold, mournful, holy, Chanted loudly, chanted lowly, Till her blood was frozen slowly, And her eyes were darkened wholly, Turn'd to tower'd Camelot. For ere she reach'd upon the tide The first house by the water-side, Singing in her song she died, The Lady of Shalott.
Under tower and balcony, By garden-wall and gallery, A gleaming shape she floated by, Dead-pale between the houses high, Silent into Camelot. Out upon the wharfs they came, Knight and burger, lord and dame, And round the prow they read her name, The Lady of Shalott.
Who is this? And what is here? And in the lighted palace near Died the sound of royal cheer; And they crossed themselves for fear, All the knights at Camelot; But Lancelot mused a little space He said, "She has a lovely face; God in his mercy lend her grace, The Lady of Shalott....
When the dark wood fell before me And all the paths were overgrown When the priests of pride say there is no other way I tilled the sorrows of stone
I did not believe because I could not see Though you came to me in the night When the dawn seemed forever lost You showed me your love in the light of the stars
Cast your eyes on the ocean Cast your soul to the sea When the dark night seems endless Please remember me
Then the mountain rose before me By the deep well of desire From the fountain of forgiveness Beyond the ice and the fire
Cast your eyes on the ocean Cast your soul to the sea When the dark night seems endless Please remember me
Though we share this humble path, alone How fragile is the heart Oh give these clay feet wings to fly To touch the face of the stars
Breathe life into this feeble heart Lift this mortal veil of fear Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears We'll rise above these earthly cares
Cast your eyes on the ocean Cast your soul to the sea When the dark night seems endless Please remember me... Please remember me... Please remember me...
Couple of days ago someone called me "Queen of exceptions". For some reason it reminded me of this song that I've always loved...
Taking on water, Sailing a restless sea From a memory, A fantasy. The wind carries Into white water, Far from the islands. Don't you know you're Never going to get to France. Mary, Queen of Chance, will they find you? Never going to get to France. Could a new romance ever bind you? Walking on foreign ground, Like a shadow, Roaming in far off Territory. Over your shoulder, Stories unfold, you're Searching for sanctuary. You know you're Never going to get to France... I see a picture By the lamp's flicker. Isn't it strange how Dreams fade and shimmer? Never going to get to France... I see a picture By the lamp's flicker. Isn't it strange how Dreams fade and shimmer? Never going to get to France... Never going to get to France. Never going to... Never going to get to France. Never going to... Never going to get to France. Never going to...
I would imagine most of you have already heard this song since it was composed for the 2008 "Where the hell is Matt" clip. But I also think that the clip's sheer amusement, causes the music not to shine as much as it might, if you're listening to it with closed eyes. So yes, I recently re-discovered "Praan" by "Garry Schyman", featuring the beautiful voice of "Palbasha Siddique". The music takes my breath away, and the lyrics that are in fact from a poem by "Rabindranath Tagore", are truly divine.
Lyrics & Translation:
Praan [Bangali]
Bhulbona ar shohojete Shei praan e mon uthbe mete Mrittu majhe dhaka ache je ontohin praan
Bojre tomar baje bashi She ki shohoj gaan Shei shurete jagbo ami
Bojre tomar baje bashi She ki shohoj gaan Shei shurete jagbo ami
Stream of Life [English]
The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.
It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth in numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.
It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death, in ebb and in flow.
I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life. And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.
ASD’s new gorgeous and painful demo called Chameleon was just released on Evoke, and it RUUUUUUUULEZ. =D And I really do mean painful. You have to watch it to know why….. You can download it from here, and read the lyrics here. Make sure you pay close attention to the music and the lyrics while enjoying the outstanding visuals. Aside from the fact that aMUSiC has done it again with an awesome tune [very 007 in my opinion this time around! ;)], the lyrics are just… priceless! ;) They add a lot to the general direction and the message of the demo. I have to say this again… I luuuuvvv the visual style of ASD’s latest 3 demos! =)
The video capture is not there yet but I will post it as soon as there is one.
From underneath the trees, we watch the sky Confusing stars for satellites I never dreamed that you'd be mine But here we are, we're here tonight Singing Amen, I, I'm alive Singing Amen, I, I'm alive [Chorus:] If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died And I'm singing Amen Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive Amen I, Amen I, Amen I, I'm alive And in the air the fireflies Our only light in paradise We'll show the world they were wrong And teach them all to sing along Singing Amen, I, I'm alive Singing Amen, I, I'm alive (I'm alive) [Chorus x2] And as we lie beneath the stars We realize how small we are If they could love like you and me Imagine what the world could be If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died When nobody died... [Chorus] We'd see the day, we'd see the day When nobody died We'd see the day, we'd see the day When nobody died We'd see the day when nobody died…..
Sooo I’ve been away for a good long while, blaming it on Twine again and on being terrifyingly busy. Will try to update more often though, I promise! =)
So here’s the video for Travis’ track “Sing”, which has been one of my favorites for a very long time. Love the mood of this track, and the lyrics too. I find a lot of metaphorical meaning in the part of it where it says “For the love you bring won’t mean a thing, Unless you sing, sing, sing sing”. Have been singing it to myself for a few days now, again. =) Here it goes:
When it comes to music, I'd say Mike Oldfield is certainly a God. I've felt the same ever since the first time I heard his music [I was an infant then... my parents were listening to Mike Oldfield]. Mike Oldfield's music has been with me my entire life, and I would even say that in some ways, it has saved my life. The song Shabda is from his latest album called "Music of the Sphere". Don't mind the video as it's not official... just listen to the music.
Terra autem erat inanis Super faciem abyssi Lux æterna dona nobis Terra autem erat in cæli
Terra autem erat inanis Super faciem abyssi Lux æterna dona nobis Terra autem erat in cæli
[Sorry for not translating... my Latin is enough to understand this, but certainly not enough to attempt a legid translation...]
The summer sun is fading As the year grows old And darker days are drawing near. The winter winds will be much colder Now you're not here. I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky And one by one they disappear. I wish that I was flying with them Now you're not here. Like the sun through the trees you came to love me Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away. Through autumns golden gown we used to kick our way You always loved this time of year. Those fallen leaves lay undisturbed now Cause you're not here. Cause you're not here. Cause you're not here. Like the sun through the trees you came to love me. Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away. A gentle rain pours softly on my weary eyes. As if to hide a lonely tear. My life will be forever autumn Cause you're not here. Cause you're not here. Cause you're not here....
Just like a whole lot of other "Moody Blues" tracks, this song means a lot to me. One of those that I've had in my ears ever since I was a kid... and somehow it makes me fly through time.. and space.. and my life... and everything. If you're someone who shares a bit of musical taste with me, [and you can find that out here of course], I recommend you check this out ASAP, that is if you haven't already. =) And here are the lyrics:
The curtain rises on the scene With someone shouting to be free The play unfolds before my eyes There stands the actor who is me
The sleeping hours takes us far From traffic, telephones and fear Put out your problems with the cat Escape until a bell you hear
Our reasons are the same But theres no-one we can blame For theres nowhere we need go And the only truth we know comes so easily
The sound I have heard in your hello Oh, oh, darling, you're almost part of me Oh, oh, darling, you're all Ill ever see
Its such a rainy afternoon No point in going anywhere The sounds just drift across my room I wish this feeling I could share
Its such a rainy afternoon She sits and gazes from her window Her mind tries to recall his face The feeling deep inside her grows
Our reasons are the same But theres no-one we can blame For theres nowhere we need go And the only truth we know comes so easily
The sound I have heard in your hello Oh, oh, darling, you're almost part of me Oh, oh, darling, you're all Ill ever see The sound I have heard in your hello Oh, oh, darling, you're all Ill ever see Oh, oh, darling, you're almost part of me...
"Thank You" by Alanis Morissette.... one of my faves, and the lyrics are just awesome!
How bout getting off of these antibiotics How bout stopping eating when I'm full up How bout them transparent dangling carrots How bout that ever elusive kudo
Thank you India Thank you terror Thank you disillusionment Thank you frailty Thank you consequence Thank you thank you silence
How bout me not blaming you for everything How bout me enjoying the moment for once How bout how good it feels to finally forgive you How bout grieving it all one at a time
Thank you India Thank you terror Thank you disillusionment Thank you frailty Thank you consequence Thank you thank you silence
The moment I let go of it was The moment I got more than I could handle The moment I jumped off of it was The moment I touched down
How bout no longer being masochistic How bout remembering your divinity How bout unabashedly bawling your eyes out How bout not equating death with stopping
Thank you India Thank you providence Thank you disillusionment Thank you nothingness Thank you clarity Thank you thank you silence....
So... to make the long story short, my mom's flying back home on Wednesday afternoon. Well, you might have some idea what that implies. Meanwhile I'm also learning some other heart-bleeding lessons. Things that I don't know how I'm supposed to interpret... and how I should feel about... and I'm just.. shocked. Oh well. "Lovely" days altogether!
Below are the lyrics I just received in an email from a very dear friend. Thank you. I love this song by the way. PHIL COLLINS - TRUE COLORS
You with the sad eyes Don't be discouraged Oh I realize It's hard to take courage In a world full of people You can lose sight of it all And the darkness, inside you Can make you feel so small
But I see your true colors Shining through I see your true colors And that's why I love you So don't be afraid to let them show Your true colors True colors are beautiful, Like a rainbow
Show me a smile then, Don't be unhappy, can't remember When I last saw you laughing If this world makes you crazy And you've taken all you can bear You call me up Because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors Shining through I see your true colors And that's why I love you So don't be afraid to let them show Your true colors True colors are beautiful, Like a rainbow
So sad eyes Discouraged now Realize
When this world makes you crazy And you've taken all you can bear You call me up Because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors Shining through I see your true colors And that's why I love you So don't be afraid to let them show Your true colors True colors, true colors
Cos there's a shining through I see your true colors And that's why I love you So don't be afraid to let them show Your true colors, true colors True colors are beautiful, Beautiful, like a rainbow...
The new James Blunt album, "Back To Bedlam", truly amazes me. There's not a single track in this album that I don't deeply enjoy. I really hope that he keeps up the awesome job. Specially now, with my current mood and..well.. thoughts and mixed feelings and all that, this album has been a life saver. Here are the lyrics for one of my favorite tracks. Fits my feelings so well right now.
"Tears And Rain"
How I wish I could surrender my soul; Shed the clothes that become my skin; See the liar that burns within my needing. How I wish I'd chosen darkness from cold. How I wish I had screamed out loud, Instead I've found no meaning.
I guess it's time I run far, far away; find comfort in pain, All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble. Hides my true shape, like Dorian Gray. I've heard what they say, but I'm not here for trouble. It's more than just words: it's just tears and rain.
How I wish I could walk through the doors of my mind; Hold memory close at hand, Help me understand the years. How I wish I could choose between Heaven and Hell. How I wish I would save my soul. I'm so cold from fear.
I guess it's time I run far, far away; find comfort in pain, All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble. Hides my true shape, like Dorian Gray. I've heard what they say, but I'm not here for trouble. Far, far away; find comfort in pain. All pleasure's the same: it just keeps me from trouble. It's more than just words: it's just tears and rain.
Hmmm...for some odd reason it appears that a whole lot of my friends have never heard this one, which happens to be one of my favorites. The video clip for this track is also one of those which is always running at some corner of my mind. Reminds me a great deal of "The City Of Angels". So why not share it with you? I'd be happy to know what you think of it. :)
And the lyrics: Green light, Seven Eleven You stop in for a pack of cigarettes You don't smoke, don't even want to Hey now, check your change Dressed up like a car crash Your wheels are turning but you're upside down You say when he hits you, you don't mind Because when he hurts you, you feel alive Oh no, is that what it is?
Red lights, grey morning You stumble out of a hole in the ground A vampire or a victim It depends on who's around You used to stay in to watch the adverts You could lip synch to the talk shows
And if you look, you look through me And when you talk, you talk at me And when I touch you, you don't feel a thing
If I could stay... then the night would give you up Stay, and the day would keep its trust Stay, and the night would be enough
Faraway, so close Up with the static and the radio With satellite television You can go anywhere Miami, New Orleans, London, Belfast, and Berlin
And if you listen I can't call And if you jump, you just might fall And if you shout I'll only hear you
If I could stay... then the night would give you up. Stay then the day would keep its trust Stay with the demons you drowned Stay with the spirit I found Stay and the night would be enough
Three o'clock in the morning It's quiet and there's no one around Just the bang and the clatter As an angel runs to ground Just the bang and the clatter As an angel hits the ground
Ah...I really do love this song.
Also, on a completely unrelated topic, Amoivikos/ASD had posted a link to this very interesting video clip in the comments for the last part of my report. I'm going to post it here, since I believe not many people will get the chance to see it over there. The video offers some good information about the Demoscene. [Thanks amv :)] And by the way, if [like me] you're not a German speaker, don't freak out, there's English subtitles. :)
Update: Ok peeps, looks like another discussion thread just opened up on the comments for the part 6 of the report (Vantage related), you might wanna check it out.
I just watched Nickelback's latest video for "Savin' Me" and I enjoyed it immensely. An interesting idea indeed.
Savin' Me - Nickelback
Prison gates won't open up for me On these hands and knees I'm crawlin' Oh, I reach for you Well I'm terrified of these four walls These iron bars can't hold my soul in All I need is you Come please I'm callin' And oh I scream for you Hurry I'm fallin', I'm fallin'
Show me what it's like To be the last one standing And teach me wrong from right And I'll show you what I can be Say it for me Say it to me And I'll leave this life behind me Say it if it's worth saving me
Heaven's gates won't open up for me With these broken wings I'm fallin' And all I see is you These city walls ain't got no love for me I'm on the ledge of the eighteenth storey And oh I scream for you Come please I'm callin' And all I need from you Hurry I'm fallin', I'm fallin'
Show me what it's like To be the last one standing And teach me wrong from right And I'll show you what I can be Say it for me Say it to me And I'll leave this life behind me Say it if it's worth saving me Hurry I'm fallin'
And all I need is you Come please I'm callin' And oh I scream for you Hurry I'm fallin', I'm fallin'
Show me what it's like To be the last one standing And teach me wrong from right And I'll show you what I can be Say it for me Say it to me And I'll leave this life behind me Say it if it's worth saving me Hurry I'm fallin'
Say it for me Say it to me And I'll leave this life behind me Say it if it's worth saving me
Yeah ok...here iz the complete lyricz 4 "Out Of The Woodz" az some friendz had requested. And about the artist, actually both Nickel Creek and Sinead Lohan have their own versionz of the song; I have absolutely no idea which one iz the original and which one iz recycled though. Here goez: I wish you out of the woods And into a picture with me I wish you over the moon Come out of the question and be If this is gonna run 'round in my head I might as well be dreaming Run 'round in my head I roller coaster for you Time out of mind must be heavenly It's all enchanted and wild Just like my heart said it was gonna be If this is gonna run 'round in my head I might as well be dreaming Run 'round in my head I wish you out of the woods And into the picture with me I wish you over the moon Come out of the question and be If this is gonna run 'round in my head I might as well be dreaming Run 'round in my head If this is gonna run 'round in my head I might as well be dreaming Run 'round in my head I might as well be dreaming Run 'round in my head I might as well be dreaming Run 'round in my head If this is gonna run 'round in my head I might as well be dreaming
Out Of The Woodz "If this iz gonna run ... round ... in my head ... I might as well be dreaming run ... round ... in my head ..." Have u heared the song? It'z been going round my head 4 quite some time now... I think it sort of describez my current situation! By the way, the song iz called "Out of The Woodz" by "Nickel Creek".
